Top Artists Of All Time: Division 1-Folk Rock

Each Friday, station to station will be looking at the Top Artists Of All Time. 32 artists in 32 genres will be featured. The top 8 artists in points received move on to the semi-finals. Instead of spouting off my own personal favorites in each genre, I've invited 19 friends (at least the ones I still keep in touch with) who I've had the privilege of talking about music, attending concerts with, or share the same tastes in music in one shape or form over the last 20 years. Many a drink has been had over which artists we think are it and not. So this is a tribute to that. Thanks for the votes, even if your favorite genres have yet to come.

The first week, 16 of 20 ballots (80%) were cast for the division of Folk Rock. That's a bit surprising considering I didn't think it would be a universal giddy up category. But of the 32 artists, 29 received a vote. In the end, older mainstays pushed their way to the top (The Dead, Cohen, The Band advanced past Iron & Wine, Fleet Foxes, and The Pogues) and Bob Dylan and Neil Young proved they were tops of the class with the most points and votes, respectively.

Scoring is relatively simple. Voters are asked to pick their 6 favorite artists in order. Their #1 gets 6 points, #2 gets 5 points, #4 gets 3points, etc. One ballot contained 5 votes which means it's #1 got 5 points, etc. And one ballot had a No Order, which means each artist received 3.5 points a piece (equaling the 21 points allotted).

So below we have The Top 8 artists from the Folk Rock division (with total points and votes received), the artists who just missed or had votes cast (Billy Bragg missed the cut just barely with 12 points and 3 votes cast, tiebreaker going to votes cast: The Band and Cohen had 4), and the ballots randomly placed at the bottom.
