Division 9 focuses on the mid to late 80's genre: Hair Metal. And as you can tell by the montage of bands above in the picture, there's a lot of hairspray going on. And power ballads. This is the 9th week where 20 voters vote 6 artists out of 32 on to a semifinals round. The Top 8 move on and each Friday get featured on station to station. We've had 8 Genre Divisions so far, but this week was a first. The top three artists each received a vote from everyone who cast a ballot. Out of the 20 voters, 15 (75%) cast ballots in the Hair Metal division. Out of the 32 artists, 18 received at least one vote. 7 different artists received first place votes.
Guns 'N Roses got the most 1st place votes but the top artists is based on points. That honor goes to Def Leppard who nudged past Guns 'N Roses to take the top spot. Motley Crue, Bon Jovi, Poison and Cinderella all got multiple votes and 1st place votes to earn enough points to move on. Two voters felt Finnish Hair was better in the 80's as Hanoi Rocks represents Finland's finest hair metal band with two first place votes. And Ratt got just enough votes to get by Skid Row for the 8th place position. Def Leppard and Guns 'N Roses move past Dylan to take the 6th and 7th place spots on the overall board. The overall board will help determine seeding for the semifinals round.
