Bon Iver-"Calgary"
Justin Vernon's band Bon Iver is back with their self titled sophomore release due out on June 21st. "Calgary" is the first song available to the public and continues in the same vein as the wonderful debut "For Emma, Forever Ago" from 2008. Song titles include different places on the new album: Lisbon, OH, Minnesota, WI, Hinnom TX...it's like an atlas for the lost soul. If there is anything that touches the best auto tune song, perhaps, ever "Woods" from their 2009 EP "Blood Bank", then there will be cause for jubilation. But just
listening to "Calgary" a couple times, it's apparent that Vernon's songwriting skills still sound pretty much in tact even if the picture above paints him as Mel Gibson's even creepier little brother.

Wild Beasts-"Bed Of Nails"
Dream pop band Wild Beasts are back with a new album after their 2009 album "Two Dancers" won a lot of hearts over in their own country Great Britain and other countries abroad. Lead singer Hayden Thorpe's delivery reminds me a lot of Antony from Antony and the Johnsons and their sound is very similar to vintage Smiths or Talk Talk. "Two Dancers" was good, and if you believe the British press, their latest album "Smother" is just as top notch. Here's an offering entitled "Bed Of Nails" which gets a thumbs up from station to station.

Incubus-"Adolescents"
I always like to keep dibs on the guys from Incubus to see what they're up to even if I'm years removed from purchasing an album from the band. And if the pure firepower of early singles like "A Certain Shade Of Green", "Pardon Me" or the bone crushing chorus of "Wish You Were Here" are long gone, I always thought they were the one alt-metal band with a decent knack of musicianship in their songs. Even if their first single is named "Adolescents", they sound like a band that has fully reached adulthood. So for those who have grown up with Brandon Boyd and friends, your choice to ride along with them into adulthood is up to you. Their new album "If Not Now, When?" is due out on July 12th.

Art Brut-"Lost Weekend"
Apparently, frontman Eddie Argos from garage rock band Art Brut has taken up singing on the band's fourth up coming album "Brilliant! Tragic!". No more hysterical talking over bang up rock songs I suppose. What was producer Black Francis thinking? Songs that are sung on an Art Brut album? But wait there are hints of promise here. First single "Lost Weekend" may have Argos singing but the song has a nice airy breeze to it. Also promising another bout with Axl Rose, a song called "Ice Hockey" and the brilliantly titled song called "Sexy Sometimes". Oh, maybe it won't be that bad after all. Or maybe I'll forget this was even released by August...who knows. The only constant is this band is so damn goofy they make me smile all the time. "Brilliant! Tragic!" is due out in the States on May 24th.
