Yusuf Azak - Turn On The Long Wire.

Yusuf Azak may have been christened with a name that hints at warmer climates, in fact the available info from his label suggests Turkish ancestry is responsible for this Scottish musician`s wonderful moniker. Melodically rooted in acoustic Folk, Yusuf`s charming vocals and eccentric guitar style are distinctive enough for a much wider audience. Try imagining an `Iron & Wine` song played slowly backwards, the vocal track fading from left to right giving the impression of a spontaneous windy day. It`s only occasionally a character like Yusuf Azak comes along, an extraordinary talent pulling together a patchwork of unfamiliar recording techniques and sub genres - This really is an exciting release from Song, by Toad Records, a release which for me has opened up an assortment of audio gems on the label`s artist roster, a mission I had promised myself after hearing the incredibly cool Edinburgh based `Meursault` last year.
Matthew, your passion for the Scottish music scene is quite obvious, you have a lot to answer for my friend.

"Turn on the Long Wire was completed with the help of the Scottish Arts Council, and combines loops and layers of both digital and analogue tracks, many of which are strings and many of which simply highly treated recordings of Yusuf?s own voice. The first 300 copies of this will be hand-folded, and one of thirty different designs issued at random".

Official release date 15th November.
