Hello, another post inspired by what happened today.. The moon is set to get a lot bigger tonight - at least from our perspective on Earth. The moon will appear bigger and brighter - sky-watchers promise this 'supermoon' will be 16 per cent brighter than most when it begins today at 3.35pm GMT, 11.35am EDT. At 11.34pm, the moon will be about 221,802 miles from Earth - about 15,300 miles closer than average. Full Moons vary in size because of the oval shape of the Moon's orbit. It is an ellipse with one side (perigee) about 50,000 km closer to Earth than the other (apogee). Nearby perigee moons are about 14% bigger and 30% brighter than lesser moons that occur on the apogee side of the Moon's orbit. And the 'Supermoon' - the nickname for a perigee full moon, closer to the Earth than usual - could cause tides to rise around the world as the moon's close 'fly past' exerts 42 per cent more tidal force.

Although electronica had its fair share of chillout classics prior to the debut of Air, they were musicians in a producer's world, and while no one could ever accuse their music of being danceable, it delivered the emotional power of great dance music even while pushing the barriers of what "electronica" could or should sound like. The opener, "La Femme d'Argent," is an otherworldly beginning, with a slinky bassline evoking Serge Gainsbourg's Histoire de Melody Nelson and a slow glide through seven minutes of growing bliss. The vocoderized "Remember" relaunched a wave of robot pop that hadn't been heard in almost 20 years, and the solos for harmonica and French horn on "Ce Matin La" made the Bacharach comparisons direct. Unlike most electronica producers, Air had musical ideas that stretched beyond samplers or keyboards, and Moon Safari found those ideas wrapped up in music that was engaging, warm, and irresistible.

The subgenre of dark acoustic or dark folk keeps fascinating . On the one hand, it harbours some of the most direct and and powerful musical expressions of romanticism, melancholy and nature mysticism that can be found in popular music. On the other hand, it is a limited and stagnant musical idiom that can annoy as much as delight with its pathos.
This haunting two-CD set compiles acoustic-based, melancholy tracks by a variety of black metal, folk-metal, and experimentally minded metal bands from the European scene. Some tracks, like Empyrium's "The Days Before the Fall," they go from gently picked acoustic guitars to louder sections with prominent keyboard lines underpinning the hard rock riffs; others, like the rare Ulver song "Synen," aren't metal at all, but soft, almost madrigal-like folk melodies, with mournful strings and choral vocals. There are lots of strings, and Scandinavian traditional drums, to be heard, and some tracks, like Musk Ox's "Solstice" and October Fall's "Viima," blend nature sounds with the music. This is a perfect album to put on during a long moonlite night, but those looking to bang their heads will be sorely disappointed.
