At Fenway, in the drizzle last August, Lackey pitching |
I can't say enough about Massachusetts. It was like the big brother state to Connecticut when I lived in CT for three years. I enjoyed hearing people call it Taxachusetts or referring to drivers as Massholes. It was envy? Or was it pure hatred? I haven't the foggiest clue. I do know that Massachusetts is the coolest of the New England states. We visited Boston on a few road trips, spent an anniversary at Plymouth, couldn't get the fairy across to Provincetown cause the weather is always shitty in Massachusetts. And me and AHO went back for her birthday last August because she became a loyal Red Sox fan (If the Sox are on TV, she's watching, loved the JD Drew episode last weekend..where's JD Drew? There he is...watching strike three go by....in true form or Pig Papi has elusive speed, watch him run down the first base line...) while we lived in New England, and I wanted to surprise her with a trip to Fenway which we never got to do when we lived there. And the weather was shitty for three days, with a nor'easter in August dumping buckets of rain, but being kind enough to let up for the game as the Red Sox won on a drizzly Monday night. We stayed in Brookline which was a neat swanky little suburb with tons of charcter. Oh, the character, the lifers with their true accent and demeanor, the love of walking around Quincy Market, it's a state I admire, but would never want to live in (Or maybe, who knows, it's in my top ten states).
Music wise, it's responsible for the Pixies, the Mighty Mighty Bosstones, early Aerosmith (the good stuff) and of course the Tom Scholtz led Boston...it's been such a long time.....I recognize the state with a Bee Gees song. Before they were disco kings they had a hit with "Massachusetts" several years before. So without research of a cooler song, I'm just going with memory here. The Massholes get the Bee Gees, that should make the other 5 New England states happy. But deep down, you know that Mass. is the coolest state. Deal with it. Go get some chowder and get wicked pissed on Sam Adams. Becuase Robin Gibb has a song that will bring the faithful to their knees, on our 50 state tour. Hate it cause Ben Affleck loves it, for good reason.
