"To compel a man to subsidize with his taxes the propagation of ideas which he disbelieves and abhors is sinful and tyrannical."
These words were spoken by the writer of the Declaration of Independence and the 3rd President of the United States, Thomas Jefferson. With these words, Jefferson is stating that to require somebody pay for policies that they do not agree with is wrong.
This morning, the United States Supreme Court announced their decision on whether or not the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, otherwise known as Obamacare, was constitutional. Much to this writer?s shock and dismay (among many others), the Court upheld the legislation as constitutional. The court?s decision was that the individual mandate, which states that a citizen of the United States MUST have health care insurance is constitutional because it does not necessarily force someone to purchase it. Instead, it allows for a person that chooses not to purchase health insurance to be given a fine, which they are actually calling a tax. The provision is constitutional because Congress has the right to collect taxes.
But do you know what this means? This means that Congress and the President now have the power to tax a person?s behavior.
Won?t purchase health insurance? They will tax you.
Won?t exercise on a daily basis? They will tax you.
Won?t buy the right kind of groceries? They will tax you.
Won?t buy a Chevy Volt? They will tax you.
Where does it end?
Believe this America. We are no longer free to make our own choices. Liberty is gone. The federal government now has the right, because the Supreme Court says so, to do anything they want to you as long as it falls under the heading of ?if you don?t do this? we will tax you for not doing it.
It is a sad day in history my friends. A sad day indeed. There is little hope for liberty in American now.
A vote to repeal this law in Congress has already been scheduled for mid-July. So Obamacare can be repealed. But guess what? Even if it is repealed, the record still stands that the federal government has the power to tax you for doing or saying anything they don?t agree with. So Obamacare goes away. Great! I?m not being forced to purchase health insurance. But the shot has already been fired. The bullet has already reached its target. Liberty is dead in this country.
What?s next?
The right to bear arms is guaranteed to us by the 2nd Amendment. But now the federal government can tax us for owning a gun.
The right to worship as we please is guaranteed to us by the 1st Amendment. But now the federal government can tax us for belonging to the wrong religion.
Where do we go from here folks? Where do we go from here?
