Well according to the fansite "True To You" Morrissey now is setting his sights on Asia and New Zealand, and is also expected to tour Japan followed by concerts in Thailand,South America, and of course my beloved country the Philippines. Hmmmp? That's interesting don't you think KABAYANS? Then again, we will just wait for the final plans since If there are still no tickets then there is no concert right? PINOY NEW WAVERS are still hoping for the best. My Blogpost header Photo seems to show how much thinking Morrissey is doing regarding his Philippine Concert. He He He!! Just cross our fingers guys and it will be really good to see the front man of "THE SMITHS" performing "LIVE" here in Manila. I wonder if there would really be a reunion of "THE SMITHS"? Naaaah!! In our dreams right? Just making this blog makes me think of how much would his concert be here in Manila. Waaaaah!! I bet it will be EXPENSIVE and so save for the rainy day okay.

EVERYDAY is LIKE SUNDAY!!

Hot Tuna - San Francisco 1988

This is Hot Tuna live at The Fillmore, San Francisco, CA, USA, on the 4th March 1988. Hot Tuna are an American blues-rock band formed originally by bassist Jack Casady and guitarist Jorma Kaukonen as a spin-off of Jefferson Airplane. They are renowned for playing acoustic and electric versions of original and traditional blues songs.

There is a strong likelihood that this concert that bought Paul Kantner and Grace Slick back on the stage together helped the Jefferson Airplane reunion tour and record in 1989 to come about.

Regarding this period in both bands history wikipedia states - Hot Tuna was reformed again as an acoustic band in 1986 performing classic material, with Joey Balin joining on rhythm guitar until 1987. Kantner joined the band in 1987 and 1988 adding some old Airplane songs to the set list. Grace Slick showed up on stage as well for one show at The Fillmore in March, 1988. The band continued into 1989 and Jorma and Jack joined the 1989 Jefferson Airplane reunion album and tour, performing acoustic Hot Tuna sets in the middle of each show.

This is the second set that evening from the band and the acoustic musicianship is superb (as commented on by Grace Slick). The late (and incredible) Papa John Creach is also a joy to listen to on violin during the latter parts of the gig. This Concert also lives on Wolfgangs Vault (HERE) however this copy comes from the much earlier circulated boot of the concert.

Queensryche ? 10 Great Songs (2011)

Part of Capitol's 10 Great Songs series, the Queensrche installment serves as an introduction to the iconic prog band. Featuring songs like ?Empire" and ?Silent Lucidity," 10 Great Songs touches on some of their hits while only barely scratching the surface of their 30-year career. While this makes for a less intimidating first look at Queensrche, a better place to start would be the band's Greatest Hits collection.

Hello, sadly the guys that formed the dark ambient duo , Coil, are no longer with us. Interestingly over the years they amassed a considerable cult following and today, Coil remains one of the most influential and best known industrial music groups

xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx

Coil was formed in 1982 following Balance and Christopherson's departure from Psychic TV. Balance and Christopherson began working with John Gosling on the project Zos Kia, which resulted in four live performances and the 1984 cassette tape Transparent. Following Gosling's departure Balance and Christopherson teamed up with Boyd Rice, and under the alias Sickness of Snakes released the split album Nightmare Culture with the experimental group Current 93. While working on their first official release, 1984's 12" How to Destroy Angels, the group settled on the name Coil. According to the sleeve notes, the single track LP is "ritual music for the accumulation of male sexual energy" and was produced under a variety of technological, spiritual, and meteorological conditions which the band felt to be magickally significant.

Since its initial release How to Destroy Angels has been remixed by Nurse with Wound's Steven Stapleton and released on a full length CD. Following the underground hit How to Destroy Angels, Coil left L.A.Y.L.A.H. Antirecords for Some Bizzare and produced Scatology, released in 1984 as their first full length studio album. The album was largely based on the sound of industrial music as well as the Post-punk movement. The single Panic/Tainted Love became the first AIDS benefit music release.  The "Tainted Love" music video, directed by Peter Christopherson, is on permanent display at The Museum of Modern Art in New York.

Horse Rotorvator followed in 1986 as the next full length release. The album is characterized by slower tempos, and represented a new direction for the group, aswellas a darker theme than previous releases. After the release left Some Bizarre Records, due to the record company's debt of GB10,000 to the group.Gold Is the Metal with the Broadest Shoulders followed as a full length release, marking the beginning of the label Threshold House. Love's Secret Domain ( LSD) followed in 1991, it represents a progression in their style and became a template for what would be representative of newer waves of post-industrial music, blended with their own style of acid house.

Coil separated their works into many side projects, publishing music under different names and a variety of styles. The pre-Coil aliases, Zos Kia and Sickness of Snakes, formed the foundation of a style that would evolve to characterize their initial wave of releases. Coil's wave of side projects represent a sort of primordial soup from which the group evolved a different style of sound. While Nasa Arab?credited to the group's project "The Eskaton"?was Coil's farewell to the acid house genre, the following projects, ELpH, Black Light District, and Time Machines, were all based heavily on experimentation with drone, an ingredient which would define Coil's following work. These releases also kicked off the start of Coil's new label Eskaton.

After the wave of experimental side projects, Coil's sound was completely redefined. Before releasing new material, the group released the compilations Unnatural History II, Windowpane & The Snow and Unnatural History III. In March 1998, Coil began to release a series of four singles which were timed to coincide with the equinox and solstices of that year. The singles are characterized by slow, drone-like instrumental rhythms, and electronic or orchestral instrumentation.

Astral Disaster was created with the assistance from new band member Thighpaulsandra and released in January 1999 via Sun Dial member Gary Ramon's label Prescription.[15] Although the album was initially limited to just 99 copies, it would later be re-released in substantially different form. Musick To Play In The Dark Vol. 1 followed in September 1999 and a few months later Coil performed their first concert in 16 years. Queens Of The Circulating Library followed in April 2000, with production credit given to Thighpaulsandra.

Coil's live incarnation has a distinct legacy of its own. The first live shows took place in 1983, but after only four performances, sixteen years would pass before they would play live again. Coil's performances were surrealistic visually and audibly. Balance, Christopherson, Thighpaulsandra and Ossian Brown were known to dress in fluffy suits; an idea inspired by Sun Ra. The suits would later be used as album covers for the release Live One; Live Two and Live Three .
Many Coil performances were released, including the widely available releases of Live Four, Live Three, Live Two, Live One and ...And The Ambulance Died In His Arms, as well as several very limited editions such as Selvaggina, Go Back Into The Woods and Megalithomania!.

Coil incorporated many exotic and rare instruments into their recordings and performances. The group expressed particular interest in modular synthesizers, including the Moog synthesizer.they are among the few artists who have been granted permission to use the one-of-a-kind experimental ANS photoelectronic synthesizer. Other instruments the group incorporated into their music included the theremin and electronic shakuhachi.

John Balance died on 13 November 2004 after having fallen from a second floor landing in his home. Peter Christopherson announced Balance's death on the Threshold House website and provided details surrounding the tragedy. Balance's memorial service was held near Bristol on November 23 and was attended by approximately 100 people.  Following Jhonn Balance's  death Peter Christopherson announced via their official record label website Threshold House that Coil as an entity had ceased to exist. The already-planned live album ...And The Ambulance Died In His Arms was released in April 2005, the name having been chosen by Balance before his death.

The final studio album, The Ape of Naples, saw release on 2 December 2005. In August 2006 the rare CD-R releases The Remote Viewer and Black Antlers were "sympathetically remastered" and expanded into two disc versions, which included new and recently remixed material. A comprehensive 16-DVD boxset, titled Colour Sound Oblivion was released in July 2010. A "Patron Edition" was pre-orderable in November 2009 and was sold out in three hours. Christopherson had also discussed the possibility of releasing Coil's entire back catalogue on a single Blu-ray disc. Unexpectedly, and six years after his Coil partner, Peter Christopherson died in his sleep on November 24, 2010 at the age of 55.

Coil's distribution and marketing techniques sometimes included releasing a limited number of albums making them collectors' items among devotees. Including things such as "art objects", blood stains and sigil-like autographs in the packaging of their albums, Coil claimed that this made their work more personal for true fans, turning their records into something akin to occult artifacts. This practice was markedly increased in the later half of Coil's career. However, Balance expressed interest in having regular Coil albums in every shop that wanted them. Some critics have accused Coil and its record company of price gouging. In 2003, Coil began re-releasing many rare works, mostly remixed.

Moon's Milk (In Four Phases) is release by Coil that compiles four of their singles onto a double CD. The two disc album compiles the CD versions of Spring Equinox, Summer Solstice, Autumn Equinox and Winter Solstice (originally recorded throughout 1998, and released seasonally from March 1998 to January 1999). The album also has a live version of "Amethyst Deceivers" hidden at the end of the first disc, following several minutes of silence after "A Warning From The Sun (For Fritz)".  The release features artwork by Steven Stapleton.

At the time of release, a mail order edition was offered , comprising the standard 2CD set with the Moons Milk (In Four Phases) Bonus Disc, a CDr of extra material presented in sleeves that John Balance had individually hand-painted.

The conclusion to the 1998 season series (actually released in January 1999) certainly lives up to the title billing, in that things do sound awfully cold and gloomy this time around. Opening track "A White Rainbow" does it brilliantly, though Balance's upfront, softly echoed vocal backed by viola from William Breeze and buried background chants result in an unstable, fascinating blend. Enough randomly crazed distortion comes in at the end to send everything just enough over the top. The holiday season is invoked with the final track, the traditional "Christmas Is Drawing Near," with Rose McDowell and Robert Lee making a return appearance in the series with an excellent, enveloping performance. The two tracks in between, "North" and "Magnetic North," mix a little more instrumental warmth in here and there, but still come across as attractively alien and distant, rising and falling drones and random melodies floating with Balance's electronically roughened delivery.

Available only on dates of Coil's Even an Evil Fatigue tour in 2004, Black Antlers consists of early studio and live versions of songs that were being worked on for the next official studio album. Due to John Balance's accidental death, most of the tracks on Black Antlers would become final yet unpolished versions.  "The Gimp (Sometimes)," a ballad never quite comes together over its 11 minutes, failing to mesh the dark, ambient instrumentation with Balance's beautiful and haunting vocals. The second track, however, "Sex with Sun Ra (Part One: Saturnalia)" is a classic late-period Coil track. Balance intones a fictional tale of a conversation between himself and the free jazz legend over a pulsating backing track punctuated by bell tones and sparse industrial percussion. "Wraiths and Strays (From Montreal)" is the highlight of the album, a twisting, slithering, pulsating beast of a track that interleaves Thighpaulsandra's keyboards with Balance's cut-up vocals to hallucinatory effect. As the tempo of the piece increases, the percussion becomes more frenetic and varied, the background squiggles become more aggressive, and the song sounds like it is chasing the listener down a dark alley. While there are some excellent songs on this album, on the whole, Black Antlers doesn't make an appropriate introduction for the uninitiated. For the faithful though, this is a near-great effort from the sorely missed group of alchemists who called themselves Coil.

Like Velvet Underground, The, their most obvious influence, the chart success of the Jesus and Mary Chain was virtually non-existent, but their artistic impact was incalculable; quite simply, the British group made the world safe for white noise, orchestrating a sound dense in squalling feedback which served as an inspiration to everyone from My Bloody Valentine to Dinosaur Jr.. Though the supporting players drifted in and out of focus, the heart of the Mary Chain remained vocalists and guitarists William Reid and Jim Reid, Scottish-born brothers heavily influenced not only by underground legends like the Velvets and Stooges, The but also by the sonic grandeur and pop savvy of Phil Spector and Brian Wilson. In the Jesus and Mary Chain, which the Reids formed outside of Glasgow in 1984 with bassist Douglas Hart and drummer Murray Dalglish (quickly replaced by Bobby Gillespie), these two polarized aesthetics converged; equal parts bubblegum and formless guitar distortion, their sound both celebrated pop conventions and thoroughly subverted them.

The Jesus and Mary Chain's early gigs have become somewhat legendary in indie circles. Playing in front of small audiences, the Mary Chain earned their notoriety by playing very short gigs, some lasting no more than 10 minutes and consisting of a constant wall of feedback and distortion, as well as playing with their backs to the audience and refusing to speak to them. Many shows culminated with the Reids trashing their equipment, which was often followed by the audience rioting. All of this delighted manager and Creation Records boss Alan McGee, who obviously found it very easy to get attention for the band. He would simply make sure people from the music press were present while these events occurred, which ensured blanket coverage in the music papers. In late 1984, the band issued its seminal debut single, "Upside Down," a remarkable blast of live wire feedback anchored by a caveman-like drumbeat; the record made the Mary Chain an overnight sensation in the U.K . The follow-up, "You Trip Me Up," further perfected the formula, and led to their 1985 debut LP Psychocandy, which gift-wrapped sweet, simple pop songs in ribbons of droning guitar fuzz. After a two-year layoff (during which time Gillespie exited to form Primal Scream, and was replaced by John Moore), the Jesus and Mary Chain returned with Darklands, a dramatic shift in approach which stripped away the feedback to expose the skeletal guitar pop at the music's core. After a sprawling 1988 collection of singles, B-sides and demos titled Barbed Wire Kisses, they emerged with Automatic, which introduced a more tightly-coiled brand of feedback while jettisoning Moore's live drums in favor of synthesized beats.

After another long absence, the Mary Chain (minus Hart) resurfaced in 1992 with Honey's Dead, and earned greater U.S. visibility thanks to a spot on that summer's Lollapalooza lineup; the first single "Reverence" also won them renewed notoriety at home when Top of the Pops banned the song . With 1994's gentle, largely acoustic Stoned & Dethroned, they even reached the U.S. pop charts thanks to the lovely single "Sometimes Always," a duet with Mazzy Star's Hope Sandoval. Another collection of scattered sides, The Jesus and Mary Chain Hate Rock 'n' Roll, followed a year later, highlighted by the single "I Hate Rock 'n' Roll," a scabrous swipe which reclaimed the pure noise attack of their earliest work. Moving to Sub Pop, they returned with Munki in 1998. William Reid left the group during the subsequent tour, and in 1999, the Jesus and Mary Chain officially disbanded.

On January 22, 2007, it was announced that The Jesus and Mary Chain were reuniting to perform at Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival. William, Jim and Linda and are releasing a full length under the band name Sister Vanilla entitled Little Pop Rock. It will be composed of tracks recorded over 10 years. The album is due out in April 2007 on Chemikal Underground.

Arguably Psychocandy is an album with one trick and one trick alone -- Beach Boys melodies meet Velvet Underground feedback and beats, all cranked up to ten and beyond, along with plenty of echo. However, what a trick it is. Following up on the promise of the earliest singles, the Jesus and Mary Chain with Psychocandy arguably created a movement without meaning to, one that itself caused echoes in everything from bliss-out shoegaze to snotty Britpop and back again. The best tracks were without question those singles, anti-pop yet pure pop at the same time: "Just Like Honey," starting off like the Ronettes heard in a canyon and weirdly beautiful with its bells, "You Trip Me Up" and its slinking sense of cool, and most especially "Never Understand." Storming down like a rumble of bricks wrapped in cotton candy and getting more and more frenetic at the end, when there's nothing but howls and screaming noise, it's one hell of a track. However, at least in terms of sheer sonic violence and mayhem, most of the other cuts were pretty hard to beat, as sprawling, amped-up messes like "The Living End" (which later inspired both a band and a movie title) and "In a Hole." "My Little Underground" is actually the secret gem on the album, with a great snarling guitar start, an almost easygoing melody and a great stuttering chorus -- not quite the Who but not quite anything else. What the Reids sing about -- entirely interchangeable combinations regarding girls, sex, drugs, speed, and boredom in more or less equal measure -- is nothing compared to the perfectly disaffected way those sentiments are delivered. Bobby Gillespie's "hit the drums and then hit them again" style makes Moe Tucker seem like Neil Peart, but arguably in terms of sheer economy he doesn't need to do any more.

The Jesus And Mary Chain - Psychocandy ( ogg 140mb)

xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx

The Jesus and Mary Chain's third studio album was a mixed bag, a touch rougher and more aggressive-sounding than Darklands, but still not the equivalent of Psychocandy for sheer kicks. Part of the problem was the actual studio setup; while soon-to-be superstar producer/engineer Alan Moulder did a great job on the sound, finding a way to mix thick guitar rumbles without sounding uncommercial, the fact was that the band was really just the brothers at this point. Like on Darklands, all drumming was courtesy of machines, and here the approach often felt monotonous; Bobby Gillespie's approach, for better or worse, really was distinct and individual, fitting with the style of the band beautifully. Meanwhile, much of the bass was also created via keyboards, another unusual switch. When Automatic was on, though, it was on, especially courtesy of another blazingly brilliant single. If "Sidewalking" was a T. Rex homage, "Head On" paid tribute to rock's eternal image of supercharged cool; one can almost smell the black leather as Jim Reid delivers the ultimate "Break on Through" lyric: "Makes you wanna feel/Makes you wanna try/Makes you wanna blow the stars from the sky." The music sure didn't hurt either; even the synth bass sounded perfectly right. Other songs, like the brawling "Blues From a Gun" and the aggro-sneer of "Her Way of Praying," suggest a new energy on the part of all involved, though likely enough they came across better live in the end with the Reids' then-touring band of the time. Meanwhile, there are definitely some sharp individual moments: the sudden massive feedback clang during the instrumental break on "Coast to Coast," the "Sweet Jane"-inspired melody on the nicely moving "Halfway to Crazy," and the hint of strings on the brief "Drop."

Again working with Alan Moulder but now also using a live drummer on most tracks -- namely Monti from Curve, one of the Mary Chain's many descendants -- the Reids came back strong with Honey's Dead, on balance a more consistent and satisfying record than Automatic. There's a sense of greater creativity with the arrangements, while the balance between blasting static rampage and precise, almost clinical delivery is the finest yet, making the album as a whole the best straight-through listen since Psychocandy. Monti's drumming finally replaces Bobby Gillespie's properly; he's a much more talented musician than the Primal Scream overlord, using the warped funk hits familiar from Curve's work to the Mary Chain's advantage. Even the drum machine-driven cuts work better than before, especially the brilliant, coruscating opener, "Reverence." Burning with some of the best nails-on-chalkboard feedback the band had yet recorded, combined with a whipsmart sharp breakbeat, all it took was the finishing touch of Jim Reid's sneering lines like "I wanna die like Jesus Christ" to make it another stone-cold classic single from the band. Other winners include "Sugar Ray," with beats and melody so immediate and addictive the track was actually used for a beer commercial, of all things, and the steady slap and crunch of "Good for My Soul." If there's a danger in Honey's Dead, it's that the near bottomless pit of reworked melodies and lyrics had almost reached its end -- even the final track, "Frequency," combines both "Reverence" itself with the Modern Lovers' "Roadrunner" -- which made the stylistic shift on Stoned & Dethroned a logical follow-up. William and Jim Reid split all the vocals almost evenly, the former especially shining on the nearly gentle "Almost Gold," the closest the record comes to a sweet ballad.

Sara Evans, 'A Little Bit Stronger' -- Story Behind the Lyrics

Last week, I interviewed Hillary Scott, Charles Kelley and Dave Haywood of Lady Antebellum before their benefit concert for Musicians On Call at City Winery. Hillary filled me in on the story behind one of the songs she wrote, Sara Evans' latest single, "A Little Bit Stronger." A very personal song, she said it's a track that means more to her now then when first written.

Suite 709 - Night & Day

Suite 709 ? Night & Day
2012, Suite 709
In a day and age when modern R&B has become clich and the rock and roll on radio sounds pro-forma and pre-packaged, it?s refreshing to find a band that blends the two with a real sense of life.  Suite 709 will make you want to dance, but without the mind numbing beats of electronic music or the lyrical rashness of modern pop.  Suite 709 is a party waiting to happen, a fact that becomes readily apparent on their debut album, Night & Day.
Kicking things off with ?Tonight Is My Night?, a vibrant song celebrating love in its many splendors, Suite 709 impresses from the start.  Front man Jirod Greene is part Jermaine Stewart and part Philip Bailey, impressing with golden tones and an acrobatic vocal style that engages the listener.  ?She Don?t Even Know? carries a distinctive pop sensibility, sucking the listener in with a radio-ready sound while flying a bit loose lyrically.  ?Rockets? is a catchy, upbeat love song that you won?t be able to shake, although the lyrical component seems a bit rote.
?Miss You The Most (True Love)? is a bit bland, but carries a nice melody that may have been better spent in a different arrangement.  It?s a solid effort, but perhaps just not up to the standard set thus far by Suite 709.  ?I Like It? brings the funk in a lively number that will have you feet ready to boogie.  If you aren?t moving to this number then you simply aren?t listening.  Suite 709 takes a bow with ?Apples And Oranges?, the best writing on the album.  Suite 709 achieves a classic Motown feel here, updating it a bit in style and sound, but making the case that they not only belong, but are here to stay.
Jirod Greene is the sort of front man who can make a band, a fact that should not be used to overlook the rest of Suite 709.  These guys play together like they were born together.  Greene?s enigmatic vocal style stands out, but he?s really just part of a dynamic ensemble whose full talent has yet to be tapped.  Night & Day is a great introduction to a band that is going to have a lot to say over the next few years.  Don?t be surprised if Suite 709 is a staple on commercial radio in the not-too-distant future.

A Song of Ice and Fire is an ongoing series of epic fantasy novels by American novelist and screenwriter George R. R. Martin. Martin began writing the series in 1991 and published the first volume in 1996. Originally planned as a trilogy, the series now consists of five published volumes; a further two are planned. In addition, there are three prequel novellas currently available, with several more being planned, and a series of novella-length excerpts from the main Ice and Fire novels.

The story of A Song of Ice and Fire takes place in a fictional world, primarily on a continent called Westeros but also on a large landmass to the east, known as Essos. The series is told in the third-person through the eyes of a number of point of view characters, 31 by the end of the fifth book.

To celebrate the start of the second tv series on HBO today a chance to delve into this glorious tale from a world with magic in stead of religious strife.

Mostly It's PACQUIAO!!

MABUHAY KA Emmanuel D. Pacquiao popularly known as MANNY "PACMAN" PACQUIAO!! YUP!! It's KABAYAN Manny Pacquiao's win over Sugar Shame este Shane Mosley via unanimous decision with the judges scoring the bout at 119-108, 120-108, 120-107 all in favor of the Filipino Boxing Icon. Definitely, another way of being "PROUD TO BE PINOY" thing!! This will be a 6th blogpost of MANNY PACQUIAO here on "The Doctor Is In". Hindi lang Pang-Music, Pang-Sports pa!! KAILANGAN PA BANG I-MEMORIZE YAN!! Ha Ha Ha!! Another achievement for Manny who is now considered as the First Billionaire in the Philippine House Of Congress, Huh? KABAYANS do you believe that? Personally, Manny is the First Honest Income Billionaire Congressman in the Philippines since every KABAYANS knows that there are more of this Billionaire thing in Congress that got it from CORRUPTION and that doesn't include our great boxing icon since Manny earned everything the good and proper way. Everyone is not blind. He He He!! Pacquiao no doubt dominated the fight as Mosley refused to attack him throughout the fight. What a Shame for Mosley and there's no more Sugar okay!! Pacquiao definitely outclassed Mosley!! PACMAN wore his yellow gloves as a symbol of unity and fight for poverty here in the Philippines which is still very much present. Nice advocacy indeed!! It was also nice seeing another popular KABAYAN singing the Philippine National Anthem with grace and perfection, and she's none other than CHARICE PEMPENGCO. No criticism this time since she sang it the way it should be sang with no alteration whatsoever.

Manny Pacquiao delivered a solid left punch from his own combination which made Shane Mosley saw stars and dropped down the ring on Round 3. A push by Sugar Shane on the 10th round made Pacman really angry with the referee because he was counted down but Mosley just went on avoiding Pacman's punches. YUP!! He's like a chicken running without the head. Manny is now considered "THE DESTROYER" since he really destroyed everyone on path and of course destroying the boxing careers of his opponents. So what's next? I guess FLOYD "The Chicken" MAYWEATHER is really afraid to face Pacquiao because Manny will surely destroy his Undefeated Clean Slate and Manny will also destroy his career. CONGRATULATIONS MANNY PACQUIAO!! You made the whole FILIPINO COMMUNITY again "PROUD TO BE PINOY"!!

Here are my Five other PACMAN Blogpost which I created before here in my little blog "The Doctor Is In" which I also indicated the blogposts dates. Just click each photos to enter each blogpost just in case you haven't read it yet.

THE GELBOYS

THE GELBOYS were a Five Piece PINOY 80s Rock and Roll Band formed back in late 1985 composed of RANDY STEPHEN CONCEPCION on Vocals and Lead guitar, JOEY BAXTER CONCEPCION on Bass, ROBIN JAMES CONCEPCION on Drums, PAUL RODERICK SANTIAGO on Rhythm Guitar, and MICHAEL CONCEPCION on Keyboards all hailing from MARYKNOLL COLLEGE. YUP!! You got it right!! The College that was dominated by Females. Btw, Maryknoll is now called Miriam College. I haven't seen or read any in-depth article yet about the band on the Web and so I decided to personally pay tribute to this great PINOY Band who also made a mark back in the 80s. YUP!! THE GELBOYS exclusively here on "The Doctor Is In". I remember seeing them twice played LIVE on two of their campus tours back in 1986. They played good vibes music with a blend of 60's beat and 80's attitude melody. The band's influences were Chuck Berry, Stray Cats, John Travolta, Elvis Presley, The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, and Frank Sinatra. No doubt you could all hear the styles of these artists on all their songs. THE GELBOYS were really big back in those days especially for the so-called "Kolehiyalas" (College Ladies) since they project good looks accompanied with good grooming if you talk about hair style and their outfits. Btw, they also have a Catchy Band name that everyone cannot forget. Hmmmp? Clean-cut look and of course they use GEL. That's why they're called THE GELBOYS right? I don't know if anyone of you reading this blogpost never used GEL as your Hair Medium before. Wheeew!! I guess especially the males, we really had our time using GEL back on those days. MEMORIES INDEED!! THE GELBOYS made two hit singles namely "MONDAY" and "EVERY TIME YOU SMILE AT ME". I also remember that there was a T.V. Special about the band and their story back in 1986. I just can't recall the title of the show and the corresponding Channel it was shown, but definitely I remember watching it and that was around 8pm-9pm. I wonder if anyone has a Video copy of it. That would be interesting don't you think? THE GELBOYS had their time indeed since they also had T.V appearances on Legendary Philippine Television shows such as "Oh No Its Johnny", "Penthouse Live", "GMA Supershow", "Eat Bulaga", "Student Canteen", and "That's Entertainment". After being THE GELBOYS for two successful years, they changed their name into "THE STINGRAY" and then to "1-800 BOYSVILLE", but during these times the band already loss their magic thus fading away in the Philippine Music Scene.

THE GELBOYS released their one and only album entitled "EVERY TIME YOU SMILE " back in 1986 under OCTO ARTS INTERNATIONAL which was produced by BOB GUZMAN of "THE BOYFRIENDS". I uploaded their two hit singles "MONDAY" and "EVERY TIME YOU SMILE AT ME" for you to listen and reminisce. The beat and melody of "MONDAY" is just as energetic as any energy drink. Well, in "EVERYTIME YOU SMILE AT ME", they sounded like the New Wave band "JIMMY JIMMY" who also made an impact here in the Philippines. I just love these two songs!!

I uploaded Three Video Clips of THE GELBOYS here in my Blog which were all shared by RANDY CONCEPCION.

Video Clip #1:
THE GELBOYS on "THAT'S ENTERTAINMENT" together with Bing Loyzaga, Ronnel Victor, The Vicor Dancer, and the Late Great FRANCIS M. performing "MONDAY" which was an original song composed by Randy Concepcion.

Video Clip #2
THE GELBOYS performing "EVERY TIME YOU SMILE AT ME"

Video Clip#3
THE GELBOYS performing Chuck Berry's rockabilly song "Johnny B. Goode". On the Video Clip were T.V. Hosts Aga Muhlach, Gigi Posadas, Cristina Gonzales and Jograd Dela Torre.

THE GELBOYS Lead Vocalist RANDY CONCEPCION who is a composer, a musical arranger, and seasoned guitar player is right now active as a Solo Artist. Btw, he was also a member of "The Cantana Band" back in the 90s. His music career, which is his real passion, was put on hold when his busy schedule as former president of a Amelco Desiccants Inc., became demanding. But now that his brother is managing the company, Randy is back in show business for good.

Well, I hope you ENJOYED another trip down memory lane "The Dr. Stirring Rhod Way" again giving tribute to this great PINOY 80s Rock And Roll Band "THE GELBOYS". THANKS for dropping by!!

There goes
