IDENTITY CRISIS Archived Articles
In anticipation of the IDENTITY CRISIS Reunion on REQUIEM's "REBEL YELL", I decided to feature again the Legendary Pinoy Gothic Band "IDENTITY CRISIS" here in my little blog "The Doctor Is In" by featuring Archived Articles of the band from 1988 to 1990 which Cool Carla shared back in March 2006. YUP!! THANKS to Cool Carla we can reminisce again the IDENTITY CRISIS so definitely It's another trip down lane "The Dr. Stirring Rhod Way". The band's reunion according to the group will also be a sort of tribute to the late "BOGS AMBROSIO" who was their Bass Player who passed away two years ago (February 9, 2009). IDENTITY CRISIS became one of the pioneering alternative bands in the Philippines which was formed back in 1986 composed of Carla Arbaya aka. "Cool Carla" on Lead Vocals, Buddy 'Boy' Arceo on Vocals, Leni Llapitan on Keyboards & Programming, Resty Cornejo on Guitars, Bogs Ambrosio on Bass, and Marvin Mendiola on Drums. Of course, every PINOY NEW WAVER/PUNK knows that they released two albums back then namely "TALE OF TWO" in 1987 and "WATER CAME RUNNING" in 1990 which I have both on Cassette Tape Formats which you can see on my archived Identity Crisis blogpost I created back in September 7, 2007. Wheew!! That's also Four Years ago!! Up until now PINOY NEW WAVERS are still hoping that these two albums will be remastered in CD Formats. That would be totally cool right KABAYANS? Are we all wishing for a falling star? One great band who were also coined back in the 80s as "The Band who's ahead of their time". So here it goes, may I present you archived articles of IDENTITY CRISIS all courtesy of COOL CARLA. THANKS Cool Carla!!
THE SCORE MAGAZINE
May-June 1988 Issue
We start off with an interesting and very colorful article of IDENTITY CRISIS on the Legendary Philippine Alternative Music Magazine "THE SCORE MAGAZINE". It's the feature on "SCORE FOCUS" entitled "NOT A CRISIS AFTER ALL". The interview was done by CRISTINA SALES and by reading it, I found the article focusing on the real Identity of IDENTITY CRISIS in terms of their music, lyrics, and their performances on gigs. When asked about the subject on drugs, the members mentioned that the band is "STRAIGHT" although they do a lot of drinking after every concert but nothing dealing on drugs.
So when asked about the influences of Cool Carla on music, definitely everyone knows that SIOUXSIE AND THE BANSHEES top the list. Another influences she mentioned was COCTEAU TWINS, THIS MORTAL COIL, and DEAD CAN DANCE. Their compositions according to Cool Carla were heavily inspired by these bands which according to her "It's something you don't hear everyday, not too heavy nor too light". Well, I just transcribed some of the contents of the articles. Ha Ha Ha!! One great PINOY BAND that really made a mark in the PINOY UNDERGROUND Scene.
JINGLE MAGAZINE
March 1989 Issue
On this JINGLE MAGAZINE Issue back in 1989, two articles about IDENTITY CRISIS were written by BERT JR. and PSYKOKEELER. "TALE OF IDENTITY CRISIS" by Bert Jr. and "RECOGNIZING ONE'S IDENTITY" Psykokeeler are both interesting articles which discussed about the band's humble beginnings and their "PORTABLE PLAYGROUND" Gig Series. It was written here that IDENTITY CRISIS was formed mid 1985 by both Leni Llapitan and Resty Cornejo who knew each other during their college days. Bogs Ambrosio and Marvin Mendiola were hustled in preceding the band's original male vocalist Buddy Arceo. After the band's very first Gig at TIME SQUARE, they hurled in WXB102 Jock Cool Carla to be their Lead Vocalist and the rest was history I may say. Btw, Resty was the one who came up with the band's name "IDENTITY CRISIS" due to the members different musical influences from Jazz, New Age, Classical to New Wave. Wheeew!! Definitely a crisis indeed don't you think?Well, I guess that's another transcribed article by yours truly. Ha Ha Ha!! I just love this nostalgic trip!! Btw, I just remembered Buddy mentioning on their Reunion Guesting on NU 107's "BALLAD OF THE TIMES" last year 2010 that he still have a copy of the band's early gig minus Cool Carla when he was still the lead vocalist of the band on Betamax Tape. Hmmp? That would be a great video clip to watch and hoping he could share it to all of us.
PLATINUM SONG MAG
July 1990 Issue
This last article of IDENTITY CRISIS I'm featuring right now was taken from the "PLATINUM MAG" which was written by DIDITH GONZALES and it focused on the band's feelings just before any performances and gigs. The author expressed her great admiration of the band and mentioned seeing them performed at a place called "CLUB A." and loves their song "IMAGINING OKTOBER". According to the members, IDENTITY CRISIS is a combination of both work and play so when It becomes work then the fun's over. I guess that's my last transcribed article for today's blogpost.
I hope you enjoyed another trip down memory lane here on "The Doctor Is In" giving tribute to a Legendary Pinoy Band called "IDENTITY CRISIS". Entertaining and Teaching a Child
Our son is 15 months old and is really starting to understand what we?re saying. He doesn?t use too many words yet (other than ?on?, which he uses about a billion times a day as he demands we turn on all the lights in our house), but he surely understands dozens of words and sentences. This is great because he can respond to our requests to put things back, not throw food and such, but it?s not great because we have to be extremely careful what kinds of words we?re exposing him to. My wife and I aren?t ones to use profanity, but the music and film we bring into our home often features some words that we?d rather not have our son hear. So what are we to do? Go buy a bunch of music by The Wiggles and some Barney DVDs? No thanks, not for us. Here are some ways that we bring kid-friendly entertainment into our home during these cold winter months of confinement.
Music
A few years ago my dad bought me a Bose Sound Dock for my iPod. A couple years later, my in-laws bought us our first iPod Touch. Those two things combined make an amazing music set up for our living room. Thanks to the Pandora app and our WiFi, we can stream all kinds of kid-focused music for free and not have to purchase a bunch of CDs that our son will probably not care about in another year or two. I?ve been generally pleased with the music that comes on most of the stations we?ve set up. Music from older Disney movies and the Muppets are favorites, however, I tried to set up a station to play some old Alvin and the Chipmunks music and got the new reboot Chipmunks tunes instead. Wow, some of those songs could kill a houseplant. Nevertheless, we use the Pandora app on a daily basis and our son definitely enjoys the music we hear. Every time a new song starts, he glances over to the speakers and will often start to dance (while sitting down, that is). I also use the Audiogalaxy app to stream music from our large music collection stored on our desktop upstairs since the iPod Touch isn?t big enough to hold it all. Besides Disney fare, he enjoys classics like the Beatles, Beach Boys and Monkees - readily available on Pandora.
Since our son has really turned into a fan of music (much to my delight), we also try to encourage him to play music himself. We?ve got a few toy instruments that we keep around and we also place him on our piano stool often to pound away on the keys. Early in his life, he showed an excitement for drumming, so we encourage him to drum on anything that?s near by: the floor, an overturned pot, the couch, his crib, etc. He also likes to pluck and strum the strings on my electric guitar, so we keep that out for him to play on too. Hopefully the music in our house will always be more than just recordings.
Film
Now, we don?t make a habit of plopping our 15 month old down in front of the TV, but there are times that we hang out in the basement and want to watch something while he plays. He?s started to take more notice of the TV now, so we wanted to find some good kid shows for him to see. The ?Pandora of TV? for us has been Netflix coupled with our Roku player to bring the streaming shows to our television. Netflix has a fairly good selection of kid?s shows to choose from, mostly from the PBS family. They also have Spongebob (which is a little too out there for us) and even old episodes of Rocky and Bullwinkle.
Speaking of PBS, their lineup of kids shows is surprisingly good these days, and it?s free in HD over the air. Our son enjoys watching Dinosaur Train in particular, but a number of shows are on the air that are short, colorful and full of educational information.
Books
Of course, we also do a lot of reading in our house. Our son is very into books and pages through them on his own occasionally, but much more often he hands us a book and climbs into our laps for a reading. We have a large collection of kids books already and we read a few before naps and bed, but also throughout the day if he asks to read. I?m extremely excited for the day that he?s old enough for us to read chapter books to him.
The World Around Us
Our son has always been a very observant kid and he loves pointing out the interesting things he sees. From a very early age he would point out the airplanes that flew over our house going to and from the nearby airport. I often take him to a window and look out asking him ?What do you see?? We then name some things that we see outside. Nowadays his favorite thing is looking for the moon. We taught him to say ?moon? a few months ago and now he will point and name the moon with glee each time it appears. I?m exciting to help him find other things in the night sky like constellations and planets. Being so observant, I think that?s something he will really enjoy.
Now, as the weather is finally shows signs of turning warmer, we?re looking forward to getting outside for entertainment. Our son absolutely loves the outdoors. Even in the dead of winter, he will wiggle with joy when we start putting his hat and mittens on for a trip outside. Last summer and fall he was a big fan of walks. We live near two parks that we would frequently walk to and around. Now that he?s more mobile, he will no doubt love playing at these parks and not just walking around them.
So those are a few ways that we keep our kid entertained and help him to learn about music and the rest of the world around him in (hopefully) healthy ways. As he grows up and becomes more independent, this will definitely get harder, but hopefully we?re laying a good foundation for him now to make wise choices about how he uses his time and what kinds of entertainment he takes in.

Priory Of Brion - The Beaufort Theatre Wales 2000
This is Robert Plant's touring band Priory Of Brion who undertook a good number of gigs between July 23rd 1999 through until Dec 21st 2000. This is the band live at The Beaufort Theatre, Ebbw Vale, Blaenau Gwent, Wales, back on the 11th February 2000. During this phase of live concerts the venues tended to be smaller in size and as can be heard from this concert recording the atmosphere was warm and included some fine banter with the audience.Excerpted from ROOTS magazine, Aug/Sep 2000 - Robert Plant explains Priory of Brion
The name of the band incorporates a reference to a society which was an offshoot of the Knight?s Templar called The Priory of Zion and the film The Life of Brian.
An approximate explanation of which might be; A kind of secret society not to be taken too seriously or over revered. He explains that he and Kevyn Gammond, now a college lecturer, have remained ?best mates? since they were in The Band of Joy together in the mid-sixties. Discussing how, on the music scene, everything seemed to go back to that era Robert said to Kevyn ?We used to do that. Let?s do it again.? Kevyn knew some really good musicians, ex students, who were starting to teach and do mixing and dance music, so they had a rehearsal in a barn and that was the beginning of the Priory of Brion.
Enhancing the air of mystery which surrounded the band in the early days, Robert created alter egos for the musicians by giving them false names and telling brief stories about their new characters. Thus Kevyn Gammond, lead guitarist became Carlisle Egypt. Andy Edwards, drums, was usually known as the man in the pointed hat and crossed sticks - Alistair Crowley. Paul Timothy, keyboards and acoustic guitar, generally referred to as TIm to avoid confusion with Paul Whetton, often became Owyn Glendwr - fresh from some border skirmish local to the current venue. Paul cool, calm and collected Whetton, bass guitar, became the enigmatic Brian without whom the whole adventure would have been impossible. Occasionally names have changed, notably when ?Brian? underwent a mystical transformation on a journey up the Norwegian fjords and became the terrifying Eric Bloodaxe. More recently the band have been referred to by their (alleged) ?real? names but we have yet to be told who the vocalist is.

Intelligent Television is an Endangered Species
To be fair, NBC has really stuck by their Thursday night, laugh-track-free comedy block ever since The Office premiered. What's funny is that one of those shows is also about a sketch comedy show: 30 Rock. Both 30 Rock and S60 debuted in the same year, had similar premises and even had numbers in their name. 30 Rock survived and has been a modest hit for 4 years and S60 is a distant memory.
Now comes word that real-world NBC has given a green light to produce a show called "Love in the Wild" which is basically the same show that was rejected on S60. It puts singles on a remote island, gives them "challenges", eliminates... I'm bored already. Although I'm sure this show will produce ratings for NBC when it makes it on air.
The problem is that it seems like intelligent, well-written shows don't attract audiences and therefore end up canceled. We've seen it with half-hour comedies (Arrested Development) and with hour long dramas (Freaks and Geeks).

Work Drugs want you on the beach
WORK DRUGS are a Philadelphia duo that make electronic music for beach reading. This is not a bad thing. There latest ep, "Tropic of Capricorn", should be required listening for lounging around the pool or by the shore. The songs seemed to be coated in lazy rays of sunshine and a little bit of tequila to make them smoother."Curious Serge' opens the set with soft synth line and simple drum beat. Vocalist Thomas Crystal never his voice above a hushed tone interrupt the groove being mined. "Rad Racer" is a little faster paced and has a killer hook for a chorus. "Golden Sombrero" is a retro 80's inspired keyboard vamp that could have passed for vintage OMD. The elegiac "Sunset Junction" swims lazily along a soft guitar line and shared male/female vocals. "Third Wave" returns to the earlier beat pattern and resets the mood of the ep as an after hours bar somewhere in the Caribbean. After the slow comedown of "Dog Daze" comes the acoustic take of "Rad Racer" Here the song is re imagined as a simple troubadour playing some tiki bar sound stage.
Work Drugs should just move to Tahiti and mine the summer circuit to notoriety. Their music was made for summer days and nights.

Greeley Estates ? The Death of Greeley Estates (2011)
The Death of Greeley Estates is the fifth full-length album by Greeley Estates. It was expected to be released on August 2, but was pushed forward due to obligations to August 9, 2011 through Tragic Hero Records and is produced by Cory Spotts. The first single for the album was released on June 1, 2011, titled "The Last Dance". On June 2nd, 2011 Greeley Estates announced on their Twitter that they will be opening with a new song entitled "Straitjacket" on their next show. Which is going to be released July 7 on the band's Facebook page, and it's also the 1st track on the record. On June 4th Greeley announced via their Facebook page that they would be releasing the song "Friendly Neighborhood Visit" through Altpress on June 7th. A new song called "Bodies" was mentioned when Greeley Estates talked about going over new songs for their next show. A tracklist for the album has been released online however it is slightly incorrect. The listing below is official and correct. The previews for all the songs have been released online.

Billy Bragg - London 2009
The Camden Crawl London Festival occurs on the May Bank Holiday in and around Camden, London England. The festival comprises of hundreds of gigs and performances. During the 'down time' there?s lots of stand up comedy shows, street performers, short films, busking, bingo, poetry, magic sows, theatre and workshops.
Describing the 2009 event the festival organisers had this to say "We partnered up with BBC 6Music this year and they were amazing. They managed to book Madness to do a secret busking tour of Camden culminating in a free open top bus show on Inverness street. It really was the gig of a lifetime and created a scene never before witnessed in Camden. It was also the first year we added the Roundhouse as venue and started to pull in some serious ?headliners?. Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Kasabian, Maccabees, 808 State, The Fall, Echo & The Bunnymen and Idlewild all played and Billy Bragg did the most amazing set at Dublin Castle"

Miranda Lambert Kicks Off Revolution Tour
David Nail and Lady Antebellum were spotted in the crowd, as was Josh's wife, actress Katherine Heigl, who danced along to most of Miranda's set. On the heels of their Beacon Theater performance, Lady A and David opted to spend an extra night in New York to catch the show before flying to St. Louis to continue their current headlining tour.
The first day of the tour, Miranda confessed she missed sound check and instead spent the night in Nashville to celebrate fianc� Blake Shelton's induction into the Grand Ole Opry.
